In Memory of David Sprague
INHS is saddened to announce the passing of former Board Member David Sprague.
A driving force behind INHS for the past three decades, David joined the Board in October 1990, and immediately put his accounting background to work serving on the Finance Committee, in a role he held throughout his tenure on the Board. David led the Board as President from June 1997 until May 2005, when he stepped into the role of Treasurer, which he held through August 2019. His financial knowledge and expertise were invaluable and contributed greatly to the success and growth of INHS during his lengthy term of service, which ended with his retirement from the Board in 2021.
Famous for his “Accounting 101 Fast-Track” crash course during INHS Board meetings, David has left an inspiring legacy at the organization. In 2022, the Board of Directors created the INHS David Sprague Exemplary Service Award, awarded to David in that year and to be presented annually to a Board or staff member who demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to the organization, as David did.
“David was a consummate leader that believed in Ithaca,” said Johanna Anderson, INHS Executive Director. “His joy was sharing photos and stories of time with his family, who are in our thoughts. While mourning this great loss, I take some small comfort in knowing he is now with his partner and love of this life, Mary Ellen.”
David’s services will be held June 30 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception in Ithaca.
