Learn How to Become a Savvy Home Shopper!

Become a savvy home shopper with our Home Inspection class!

A home is the biggest buy most of us will ever make. Join INHS for our Home Inspection Class to learn more about a key part of the process — the home inspection. A professional home inspection will help you get to know your potential purchase, avoid buying a home with significant issues, and ensure the price accurately reflects the home’s condition.

According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, a home inspection is an “examination of the physical structure and systems of a house, from the roof to the foundation.” This includes heating, air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing systems. After the home inspector examines the home, the prospective buyer receives a report detailing their findings and recommendations.

A professional inspection is essential to identifying unaddressed structural, safety, or other major issues. Even for a home without such problems, the inspection report serves as a valuable guide to smaller projects that should be completed, as well as ongoing maintenance tasks. Also, joining your home inspector for the inspection itself will give you an intimate understanding of your new abode — from how to shut off the water to where that mysterious hatch in the ceiling might lead!

You will likely tour many homes during your buying journey, and hiring an inspector to evaluate each one would be expensive – therefore, it’s best to know how to do a bit of that critical evaluation yourself. INHS’s Home Inspection Class invites you to tag along with a local, certified home inspector. You’ll learn what an inspector looks for and which sorts of problems might be considered deal-breakers, plus how to select and hire an inspector and how to best use the information in the inspection report.

Our Home Inspection Class takes place monthly. The next session will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 6:30-8 pm in Ithaca. Price is $20/person or $35/household ($10 for former INHS Home Buyer Education participants).

Register at ithacanhs.org/event/home-inspection/feb2023, or by calling (607) 277-4500 ext. 505 or emailing hbe@ithacanhs.org.

Happy house-hunting!
