Tompkins County Awards $200,000 for Nursery School

Posted Mar 1, 2023

INHS was awarded $200,000 by the Tompkins County Legislature via the Tompkins County Recovery Fund to help fund the new facility for the Trumansburg Community Nursery School (TCNS) as part of the redevelopment of a large vacant parcel in the Village of Trumansburg. Known as Village Grove, the redevelopment will create a transformative, energy efficient model community with housing for a range of income levels, both rental and for-sale, in a walkable neighborhood close to downtown amenities and schools.

To address an identified community need and allow more parents to pursue jobs and educational opportunities, the project will include the new TCNS nursery school, which will welcome children of all incomes in a collaborative, community-based approach.

The planned new facility will allow TCNS to nearly double its current enrollment to 46 children, extend hours for working families, and expand community programs and partnerships. TCNS offers affordable enrollment fees and scholarships to low-income families, and will rent their new facility from INHS at a below-market rate.

Construction on Village Grove is set to begin later this year.
