Celebration at Wheat Street Brings Community Together

Posted Oct 7, 2025

The weather was glorious, the grill was sizzling, and the community vibes were enthusiastic at the Community Cookout at Wheat Street Apartments, held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at INHS’s Wheat Street Apartments community in the Village of Cayuga.

Organized by community partners, the event brought representatives from numerous local organizations to spread the word about their work and offering. The Cayuga Fire Department shared safety info and delighted young prospective firefighters with the chance to practice handling a real fire-hose — or just to cool down on an unseasonably warm day in the spray of the hose). INHS offered free hot dogs hot off the grill alongside ice-cold popsicles and beverages, and kids enjoyed face painting (thanks to the little-known-until-now artistic talents of our Executive Director, Kate!) and other craft activities.

We were delighted to host so many residents, neighbors, and community partners. Thank you to Village of Cayuga Mayor Don Wilson, Jr. and our Cayuga County community partners for participating: Cayuga Fire Department, Heritage Church, SCAT Van Service/Transportation Project for Cayuga County, NYS Office of Mental Health/988, Cayuga County Veterans Services, and the Cayuga County Bridge Drop-In Center.

INHS is thrilled that our services and programs are supporting community in Cayuga County, and that Wheat Street has become part of the vibrant Village of Cayuga. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us!
