Two Community Developments Receive Funding

Posted Jul 8, 2022
Two of INHS’s community developments received funding from the New York State Department of Homes and Community Renewal, and will be moving forward with construction!

Wheat Street Apartments in the Village of Cayuga, INHS’s first development in Cayuga County, received $5.5 million. The $17 million project includes the redevelopment of a 40,000 square foot 1950’s era elementary school and associated property into 47 affordable housing units for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Nine units will be set aside for individuals with a developmental disability with services provided by the Gavras Center.

“INHS strives to develop housing that is part of the larger community vision. As such, we are incredibly grateful to be part of the redevelopment of 255 Wheat Street that will provide 47 units of affordable housing, eight of which will be set aside for those who are homeless and have an intellectual or developmental disability. We look forward to continuing and growing our partnerships with the Gavras Center and the Village of Cayuga in bringing this property to its fullest potential,” said INHS Executive Director Johanna Anderson.

Village Grove in Trumansburg received $6 million. The $25 million project will be located on about 19 undeveloped acres at 46 South Street on the south side of the village, and will include 17 market rate for-sale housing units, 10 affordable for-sale townhomes, 6 affordable rental townhomes, and 40 rental apartments.

Anderson says of the project, “We are equally thrilled to have received funding to support Village Grove in Trumansburg –our project to achieve Passive House certification. These projects would not be possible without the support of Governor Hochul and her commitment to providing sustainable, supportive, high-quality affordable housing. We applaud this commitment and are grateful that we are able to have a hand in providing these critical housing services to our community.”

INHS is the only developer to receive two funding awards this round. Thank you to Governor Hochul for her commitment to providing sustainable, supportive, high-quality affordable housing.
