To celebrate National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 24, INHS hosted a voter registration table outside of its main office in Ithaca, inviting the public to stop by and register to vote!
“Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. It’s important to INHS that its tenants and community members realize their vote matters,” said Kayla Wingert, development manager at INHS.
The Community Relations Department also hosted a voter registration table at six of its rental properties since August, including 210 Hancock and Breckenridge, to encourage its tenants who were not yet registered to do so. Tenants were thankful that INHS took the time to support such a critical issue, with many expressing their gratitude.
INHS’ initiative derived from the National Low Income Housing Coalition‘s Our Homes, Our Votes campaign, designed to register, educate and mobilize more low income renters and affordable housing advocates to be involved in voting. To ensure low income housing interests are represented, it is critical that organizations, like INHS, engage renters and other community members in the voting process.
