INHS celebrated the completion of its latest community development, Glen Lake Apartments (GLA), with a Ribbon Cutting event on Tuesday, June 22. Located one block from downtown and walkable to the picturesque waterfront Village of Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes, this project is the result of a partnership between INHS and Watkins Glen Housing Authority (WGHA): two non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people with low and moderate incomes in the region.

This $11.6 million affordable and supportive housing development is INHS’s first in Schuyler County, and offers 34 affordable apartments including six supportive homes reserved for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The building includes a 7,300-square-foot childcare center on the ground floor that is leased by My Place: A Play and Learning Center, which provides educational opportunities for children under age five. The project also supports the economic development efforts underway in Watkins Glen as part of the village’s selection as a winner of the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative for the Southern Tier.

The mixed-use, mixed-income affordable housing development includes the construction of 34 brand new affordable apartments units. It has successfully achieved LEED Gold certification, and is located one block from downtown and walkable to the picturesque waterfront Village of Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes.

INHS was joined by countless partners and funders, including Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who said of the project, “A healthy downtown is vital to transforming communities into great destinations to work, play and raise a family. With the completion of Glen Lake Apartments, we are helping to further enhance the quality of life in downtown Watkins Glen by providing safe, quality and affordable housing, while also improving access to much-needed childcare for working parents.”

Resident of Glen Lake Apartments and recent retiree, John Juhasz, said, “I’ve come to appreciate the frustration that the retired, the aging, the disabled, and the hard-working individuals with low income have in finding safe and dignified affordable housing. But through foresight, along with the cooperation of others in both the public and private sectors, INHS has made this possible.” Read John’s full story here.
