Four Counties Receive Down Payment Assistance

Posted Jun 12, 2022

INHS has been awarded a HOME Local grant through New York State Homes and Community Renewal totaling $330,500 to provide purchase assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers in Tompkins, Chemung, Cortland, and Tioga Counties.

The funds will allow INHS to serve low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers with up to $20,000 in forgivable down payment and closing cost assistance for up to 12 households. There is also a possibility of additional funds for health and safety improvements, and energy efficiency upgrades.

In 2021, INHS helped 39 first-time homebuyers purchase a home with purchase assistance. Additionally, INHS provides HUD-certified Education and Counseling to help first-time home buyers prepare for homeownership.

“It’s rare that INHS is able to provide 0% interest, $0 monthly down payment assistance to clients, and we are honored to have received the opportunity to continue to help residents of Tompkins County. These funds will transform the lives of those who have always wanted to own a home, but lacked the financial resources necessary to purchase,” said Executive Director of INHS Johanna Anderson.

Loan officer at INHS, Patrick Mitchell, said of the program, “The ability to continue to fulfill our mission in the place our roots began is such an honor.” Contact Patrick at pmitchell@ithacanhs.org or visit ithacanhs.org/homeownership to learn more about income eligibility requirements.
