October 2021 Update
Construction at Founders Way is on schedule overall with the perimeter buildings (the corner duplex at 330 W. Buffalo and the two new townhome buildings) somewhat ahead of schedule. The perimeter buildings will be available for occupancy in July 2022 and the entire project will be complete and available for occupancy in December 2022.
As with any project involving an existing building, some unanticipated conditions were discovered once construction was underway. This included some additional asbestos containing materials, all of which were properly abated, and a different structural condition at the intersection of the older and newer wings of the school building than was expected. This necessitated some redesign of the structural system of the new wing in that area but there will be no visual changes to the building as a result of this redesign.
Neighborhood residents experienced some shaking during demolition of the old wing of the school due to the nature of soils in the downtown Ithaca area, but no damage to adjacent structures was reported and neighbors were consistently gracious and understanding of the challenges involved in undertaking a major construction project in a densely residential area. INHS is grateful to the community for their continued support of the project.
