Program Funds Awarded to Help Tompkins Co Residents Maintain Independence

Posted Feb 8, 2023

INHS has been awarded $150,000 from New York State’s Access to Home program to provide ten Tompkins County residents repairs to their homes.

This funding will allow INHS to offer accessibility modifications for low-income households who live in single-family, owner-occupied homes, manufactured home communities, and renters if landlord agrees to regulations. The goal of the program is to help homeowners and renters with disabilities to age in place and continue living independently.

Repairs include services such as rebuilding deteriorating entryway steps, constructing wheelchair ramps and lifts, handrails, expanded doorways and stair glides, appliances that respond to verbal commands, nonskid floors, strobe light or vibrator-assisted smoke and security alarms, generators, and much more.
