Story 17: From Manhattan to Ithaca: Gloria’s Decade at Breckenridge Place

Posted Jun 1, 2026

In 2013, Gloria moved to Ithaca from Manhattan as a retired nurse of modest income. While living in another apartment building in downtown Ithaca, she stumbled upon the construction site of Breckenridge Place Apartments and decided to conduct her own research into INHS’s newest property.

Gloria’s early interest in the 50-unit affordable apartment project paid off when she became one of the first Breckenridge tenants after the building’s completion in 2014. A city girl at heart, Gloria didn’t drive nor own a car, so she was grateful for Breckenridge’s central location. “Living downtown in a lovely apartment in a new building made the transition much easier,” she said of her move. The cleanliness of the newly constructed building was also a major bonus for her.

It wasn’t long before Gloria became a fixture of the Ithaca community. “I helped arrange many social activities in our Community Room and forged lasting friendships along the way,” she said.

Gloria has now been living in Breckenridge Place Apartments for over 10 years and hasn’t looked back. “I remain grateful for having a safe and comfortable home,” Gloria shared. “People should be made aware of the multitude of services being offered by INHS… the staff from the executive level, administration, and maintenance are very respectful, approachable, and accommodating.”
