Statement on Upcoming Eviction Case

Statement on behalf of INHS Executive Director Kate G. de la Garza, July, 18, 2025

We want to share some information about an ongoing legal matter involving a current resident of INHS who is scheduled for eviction in the coming weeks.

As a local nonprofit focused on affordable housing, INHS does everything we can to help residents stay in their homes. We’re currently building a resident support team to better connect people with the help they need when they’re struggling to pay rent.

Earlier this year, we worked closely with this resident and their attorney to come up with a mutually beneficial solution. Together, we agreed on a plan that was approved by the court. It included forgiving all unpaid rent and giving the resident nearly six months to find a new place to live. Unfortunately, the terms of that agreement weren’t followed by the resident, and as a result, the court issued an order of eviction.

At INHS, we care deeply about the well-being of our residents. We approach situations with compassion and a commitment to clear, respectful communication. We also follow all local and state housing laws, including those that protect residents with disabilities.

We made every effort over several years to support this resident and help them stay housed. Ultimately, we reached the difficult decision to end the housing arrangement earlier this year. While we can’t share specific details due to privacy and legal reasons, we want our community to know this was not an easy choice.

INHS will continue working hard to provide safe, affordable housing and treat all residents fairly and respectfully. We thank our community for their continued trust and support as we handle this sensitive matter with care.
