Kick-Off Party Celebrates CHT Modular Installation

Posted Dec 4, 2024

INHS invited neighbors, community partners, donors, and board and staff (and a few curious passersby) to a viewing party to witness the unique opportunity of a modular home installation first-hand! On Tuesday, December 3, about 40 people gathered on Sears Street in Ithaca to watch the crane installation of the first of four for-sale modular homes that will be sold into the organization’s Community Housing Trust.

The event meant much more than watching the exciting process of the modular home being set in place on its foundation, it was a symbol of the great work our community can do as we continue to work together to break down housing barriers for low-to moderate-income households throughout INHS’s seven county service area.

A special thank you to Sears St donor, Martha Wright, who made this project possible through her generosity, and our partner Simplex Homes, a modern, technically advanced, and nationally recognized leader in modular construction.

Since its inception in 2009, the INHS Community Housing Trust has added a total of 71 affordable for-sale homes to its portfolio with 21 in the pipeline. Twenty-six CHT homes have changed ownership, totaling 97 households having benefited from the shared equity program. With this program, the homebuyer purchases only the house, and the Trust owns the land under a 99-year lease, making it permanently affordable for the current and future homeowner.
