$6 Million Awarded for Improvements to Manufactured Housing Community
INHS received over $5.7 million in financing from the New York State Home and Community Renewal (HCR) to support ongoing improvements at Compass Manufactured Housing Community located in the Village of Trumansburg in Tompkins County and the Town of Covert in Seneca County.
The funds will be used along with a $1.5 million grant from Enterprise Community Partners to improve roadways and drainage systems, install street lighting, replace the existing sanitary sewer system, upgrade the water distribution system, install 200-amp electric hookups throughout the community, and to add 13 new home sites to the already existing 138-pads. The project will also replace 8 substandard rental homes with new energy efficient units and will add site amenities including a playground and play court.
“The purchase of the organization’s first manufactured home community has provided us with an opportunity to fulfill the INHS mission in a new and innovative way. We are grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul and to HCR for entrusting us with this project to help our neighbors better their homes and neighborhoods and are hopeful for more opportunities in the future to improve other manufactured communities,” said INHS Acting Executive Director Patricia Paolangeli.
NYS Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said, “We are thrilled to deliver $5.7 million for much-needed improvements to the Compass Manufactured Housing Community in Tompkins and Seneca Counties. These critical infrastructure upgrades will enhance quality of life for the many families who call this community home and ensure that the park remains a safe, healthy, and affordable housing resource for decades to come. Thank you to INHS for undertaking this important project.”
Village of Trumansburg Mayor Rordan Hart added, “These much-needed improvements will be a dramatic upgrade to the condition of the Compass community and will be a great benefit to its residents. The Village of Trumansburg appreciates the diligence and efforts of INHS to improve the quality of life and the services offered to Compass residents while maintaining overall affordability.”
The 53-year-old manufactured housing community was purchased by INHS in 2021 with the intention of improving the overall infrastructure of the community and providing health and safety and energy efficiency improvements to existing homes. The purchase also includes over 100 acres of additional land that could be redeveloped for future rental housing or other community needs.
