Six Counties Receive (Forgivable) Down Payment Assistance

Posted Jul 11, 2024

INHS has been awarded New York State HOME Program funds through New York State Homes and Community Renewal to provide purchase assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers in Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties.

The funds will allow INHS to serve low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers with up to $20,000 in forgivable down payment and closing cost assistance. There is also a possibility of additional funds for health and safety improvements, and energy efficiency upgrades.

“It’s rare that INHS is able to provide 0% interest, $0 monthly down payment assistance to clients, and we are honored to have received the opportunity to continue to help residents of these counties. These funds will transform the lives of those who have always wanted to own a home, but lacked the financial resources necessary to purchase,” said Acting Executive Director of INHS Patricia Paolangeli.

Loan officer at INHS, Patrick Mitchell, said of the program, “The ability to continue to fulfill our mission in the place our roots began is such an honor.” Contact Patrick at pmitchell@ithacanhs.org or visit ithacanhs.org/homeownership to learn more about income eligibility requirements.
