Glen Lake Apartments Achieves LEED Gold Certification
Our latest development, Glen Lake Apartments in Watkins Glen, achieved LEED Gold certification in March 2021, designating it a nationally-recognized highly efficient, cost-saving green building.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program assesses building design and construction in terms of energy efficiency, water usage, air quality, and choice of building materials as well as environmental factors such as responsible land use.
INHS participated in the LEED pilot program over twenty years ago, helping to create the LEED for Homes building standard that demonstrates environmentally responsible building practices.
The program is sponsored by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Building projects that participate in the program can be awarded certification on four levels, based on the total points earned:
- LEED Certified buildings earn 40–49 points
- LEED Silver buildings earn 50–59 points
- LEED Gold buildings earn 60–79 points
- LEED Platinum buildings earn 80 or more points
Sustainability, a core value of INHS, supports its mission to provide safe and quality housing. Sustainable building practices extends the life cycle of homes, decreases energy consumption and costs, improves health outcomes, and reduces the community’s carbon footprint.
In 2019, INHS received $1 million from New York State’s Building of Excellence Competition for its upcoming development, Village Grove in Trumansburg. Once completed, the development will be INHS’s greenest project to date. Additionally, in 2021, announced its year-long partnership with local engineering firm specializing in energy research and studies, Taitem Engineering, to reduce INHS’ energy usage through NYSERDA’s On-Site Energy Manager (OsEM) program.
