- Lead
was used in paint to improve its performance
- Residential
paint with lead is no longer sold
- Most
houses built before 1978 contain some lead-based paint
- Lead-based
paint in good condition is NOT hazardous
- Lead
dust from deteriorating lead-based paint IS hazardous, particularly
to children
- Renovation
or repairs done improperly can cause excessive lead dust and hazards
for the workers and the occupants
INHS
is knowledgeable about the hazards that are created by lead-based paint
in older housing. Our trained, EPA certified staff will advise you of
potential lead-based hazards during your renovation or purchase.
Whether
you are getting a home improvement
loan or a purchase
loan, INHS
staff will:
- Inspect
the property for deteriorated paint and tell you in a written report
where lead hazards might be and how you can protect yourself and your
family
- Arrange
for further paint testing if it is required
- Ensure
that properly trained workers work on lead-based painted surfaces
using lead-safe work practices
- At
the completion of the work, inspect and test (if necessary) to ensure
that no lead hazards were left behind.
INHS is also:
- Educating
all of our customers, contractors, and partners about the dangers
of lead-based paint
- Training
contractors to use lead-safe construction techniques
- Offering
free paint testing, if needed, as part of our renovation and home
purchase loans
