INHS has been awarded two HOME Local grants through New York State Homes and Community Renewal totaling $988,500. Thirty-one grants were distributed throughout NYS totaling $13,199,145 through the HOME Local Program.

These funds will allow INHS to expand its homeownership program by 34 households throughout Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties. The program will provide down payment and closing cost assistance to low- and moderate-income homeowners.

“These funds are critical to allowing INHS to continue its mission to assist future homeowners in making their dream of owning a home a reality. We are honored to have received two grants totaling almost $1 million to accomplish this and expand our reach,” said Executive Director of INHS Johanna Anderson.

In 2018, 77 households received down-payment assistance or closing cost loans through INHS within its service area, which includes Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.

Loan officer at INHS, Patrick Mitchell, said of the partnership with the HOME program, “it’s meant so much to so many low-income homeowners in our area, and we can’t wait to continue and expand this collaboration.”
